Movin’ on Up!

How about a piece of the cake, instead? 🙂

Now just remember, I am just a mom and not a professional decorator by any means, LOL! I am only on a mission to build a better birthday cake for my kids!

Although, a drunk leprechaun sitting on a grassy knoll with a chocolate pot of yellow marshmallows and a Jelly Belly rainbow isn’t exactly a kid birthday cake. It was slightly inspired by how I was feeling after the first day of Spring Break with my beautiful boys running amuck while I was trying to figure out my cake decorating theme! 😉

but, I get to move on up to Course 2 anyway! 🙂

    Now if I can just figure out natural food colorings. I experimented the other day by adding beet, spinach and pumpkin powder to the icing base (for red, green and yellow) and it was good at first, but the veggie flavors “grew” over the course of a few hours. I had a friend sample them at class without telling her ahead of time what it was, so she sampled the green (spinach powder) and about fell off her chair, LOL! She is very suspicious of me now. 🙂

  3. That is too funny! I guess that just because a dye works on Easter eggs doesn’t mean it works in icing! Maybe a really old cookbook will help — they didn’t used to have artificial colorings, so they did just what you described…I believe with similar results sometimes!

    I have really been getting into “old” cookbooks lately! There is something to be said about how foods used to be prepared, before the convenience food era and what I cannot help but notice is a corresponding increase in celiac disease, food allergies and intolerances! 🙂

  6. I love looking through my mother’s and my mother-in-law’s old cookbooks — fascinating! But my grandmothers’ cookbooks…a lesson in history! Measurements like “butter the size of a walnut” — what size walnut?!!!
